A good sized hotel convenient for the Haymarket train station and surrounding area, check-in was swift and efficient although getting to the room took somewhat longer with only one lift working. Although on the top floor, I still didn’t have much of a view, my room overlooked the hotel’s car park and the back of the tenement building opposite, but that did at least mean that it was nice and quiet being away from the road. The room itself was adequate, it’s difficult to really say much more than that. Clean and tidy, with everything one would expect, but certainly nothing in the way of any character. Facilities included a safe, iron and ironing board, and tea/coffee making facilities including a Nespresso machine, although there were no biscuits and the mini-bar/’fridge was completely empty, not even a bottle of water. The bathroom was a little on the small side, and the over bath shower was just connected to the taps which made regulating the temperature quite difficult, having to adjust hot and cold taps independently to try and get the desired result. The bath was also quite difficult to step out off, and wouldn’t be suitable for anyone with any sort of mobility issues, I wouldn’t have thought. Breakfast was an entirely help yourself buffet selection, and covered most bases including cereals, cooked, cold meat & cheese, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, etc., although the depth in each range was a little limited, with no hash browns with the cooked breakfast for example, no fish with the cold selection and just two bowls of yoghurt to spoon out yourself rather than individual pots. Neither the orange juice or the coffee from the self service machine were that great, but in fairness all the food that I sampled was decent enough. Drinks choice in the bar was a little disappointing with the only cider on tap being Magners. Why on earth would a Scottish hotel stock an Irish cider, when their own country produces the excellent Thistly Cross? Obviously they don’t subscribe to the concept of reducing food (or drink) miles. This bills itself as a 4 star hotel, but I really couldn’t see that, it seemed much more of a 3 star to me. There really is nothing wrong with it, but there’s nothing really great about it either, and for almost £200 a night I something more.

Leonardo Royal Hotel Edinburgh is centrally located in Exciting Edinburgh with minutes walk to the Waverly train station and to the Royal Mile with all the souvenir shops and restaurants / cafe lining both sides. The hotel is modern, with clean and contemporary rooms. I love their beautifully scented The White Company toiletries and bright windows. Their complimentary bottle of sparking and still water each, are appreciated. The bed and pillow are comfortable, in a spacious room. Room decor and colour tones were earthy and pleasing aesthetically. My 4th Floor room in the front, afforded a nice view towards the train station. They offer a buffet breakfast with wide array of hot and cold dishes, as fuel for us to start the day. I even partook of Haggis again, which is breakfast for champions. Their restaurant is big with lots of seating, and different newspaper. Try and request for a room which is not facing the noisy next door construction site. Unfortunately not the best experience at this hotel. Several things went wrong 1) Room was not as booked 2) The shower is the worst I have experienced in a hotel, ileith insufficient pressure and small shower head 3) Toilet did not flush properly ( we reported this but it was not put right) 4) Telephone in the room was not connected 5) Towels were not renewed on our 3rd day (and could not ring down to reception on the internal phone so I had to go down to reception in my pyjamas to request fresh towels 6) fire alarm went off at 2am Monday morning, this is not the fault of the hotel, however when we reached the street there were no fire Marshall or hotel staff organising the evacuation, so we had to go back into the hotel to find out that it was a false alarm, so the evacuation very unorganised and I hate to think how serious this could be in the event of an actual fire and last but not least 7) not a great breakfast which cost us £16 (had a much better breakfast at an independent cafe for the same price). In summary, I would not plan to stay here again and wouldn't recommend, unfortunately.

Booked a twin room with sofa for myself and 2 friends. When arrived it was a double bed plus sofa. Not too worried by that. Bed was very comfortable. Shower wasn't great, not powerful and small shower head. Phone was not working so we could not phone reception. On the 3rd day realised the towels in the room had been taken but not replaced. We could not use phone to call down to request towels so had to go down to reception to ask for towels. These did not appear so had to call reception using mobile. Towels were eventually brought to room. On the 3rd night at 2am the fire alarms went off, we left the building but there were no fire marshalls to let us know it was a false alarm - we had to go back in to ask at reception. Breakfast ok but not amazing

Absolutely fantastic! I was meant to be staying in east lothian but got stranded in Edinburgh at 11pm with no way to get to the hotel I had booked for the night. So I came here and explained my situation and the staff couldn't have been more understanding and helpful! I got a double room for the night and it was beautiful. No noise from other rooms or outside the hotel. 24/7 rooms service and overall a wonderful stay. The breakfast in the morning was great and definitely worth the money. I would 100% recommend this hotel to absolutely everyone as it was absolutely wonderful.
